Two Maxwell Community (TX) Volunteer Fire Department firefighters—brothers Hunter and Jonathan Coco—died in a rollover crash Monday just outside Lockhart.
Hunter, 21, was a firefighter with the department for just over a year. Jonathan, 25, was an assistant chief with the department who had served for six years, the department said in a press release on Facebook.
The brothers were returning to Maxwell from fighting a wildfire outside of Lockhart when the crash occurred on State Park Road (FM 20) at its intersection with San Jacinto Street at about 1:45 p.m. Monday. A woman driving southbound on San Jacinto Street was hit by the Maxwell brush truck as she turned onto State Park Road. She was issued a summons for failure to yield.

The fire apparatus rolled over, killing the brothers. The other driver in the crash suffered minor injuries.
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, two brothers, Assistant Chief Jonathon Coco and Firefighter Hunter Coco with the Maxwell Community Volunteer Fire Department, were returning from the scene of a wildland fire on Texas Highway 20 in a brush truck when the driver of a privately owned vehicle failed to yield and was struck by the truck. The brush truck rolled over killing both Assistant Chief Jonathon Coco and Firefighter Hunter Coco.
