According to a report from KHON, the Honolulu (HI) Fire Department (HFD) is now investigating a two-story house fire that killed two people and left one in critical condition as a possible hoarder fire. The incident occurred on Booth Road in Pauoa Valley just after 2:20 a.m. Monday morning.
HFD Captain Ricardo Yost said crews encountered down power lines in front of the home’s main entrance. Crews used ladders to enter the sides and rear of the home and deployed hoses to protect neighboring homes.
Neighbors said they saw white flashes from sparks.
While in the home, HFD firefighters discovered the two victims: a 77-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man. A 77-year-old man was able to escape the fire; he was transported to a local hospital in serious condition with burns to his right arm and both legs.
Ricardo said this was incident was a possible hoarder situation.
HFD requested Hawaiian Electric (HECO) because it appears the fire brought down electric service lines to the home and a neighboring property. A HECO trouble man deenergized a transformer to safely remove the downed lines, while crews returned afterward to make repairs.
There is no estimation of damage at this time.
