More Than 75 Dogs Die After AR House Fire

According to a report from THV11, the Benton County, Arkansas, fire marshal is now investigating a house fire that killed 76 dogs and sent another 73 to the Rogers Humane Society on Saturday. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said 149 dogs were removed from the home, but only 73 survived.

Avoca (AR) Fire Department (AFD) Chief Brian Ervin said they received the call Saturday morning to a home on Deason Road. On arrival, AFD crews found heavy smoke, with the homeowners attempting to remove the animals from the home. Ervin said firefighters helped get the dogs out of the house as well as conduct search and rescue.

Ervin said several dogs received breathing treatments with special masks. He also says the family of five or six made it to safety and were assisted by the Red Cross.

Firefighters from Rogers, Beaver Lake, Little Flock, Nebco, and Pea Ridge also responded and helped attempt to rescue the dogs.
