AZ Firefighter Dies in Ambulance Accident

The U.S. Fire Administration issue a notification on the death of a firefighter with the Salt River Fire Department in Scottsdale, Arizona, who was killed in an ambulance accident.

On Friday, April 8, 2022, Firefighter/EMT Brendan Bessee, 24, was driving an ambulance responding to a 911 call with a co-worker. They turned left off of McDowell Road onto Beeline Highway. After crossing the southbound lanes they were hit by a semi-truck going north.

Firefighter/EMT Bessee was pronounced deceased at the scene. The coworker was rushed to the hospital and is listed in critical condition. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
