Suffolk (VA) firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to a fire that went to three alarms and involved the rescue of two children.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to the scene of a working three alarm structure fire in the 400 block of Smith Street today. Emergency communications was contacted at 1:23 p.m.

Fire Chief Michael Barakey advised that the first unit on the scene found heavy flames showing from the rear of the structure. Initial reports indicated several people trapped inside. A primary search was conducted with no one found initially, but Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel pulled two children from the home. Both were evaluated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation and were transported to an area hospital. Additionally, two Suffolk firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion with one of the firefighters taken to an area hospital.
The fire was marked under control at 3:15 p.m.
