Four Others Hospitalized
According to a report from The Morning Call, a fire destroyed a Hellertown, Pennsylvania, home, resulting the deaths of two girls, ages 10 and 15, and four others were hospitalized after firefighters rushed in to rescue the two children who were trapped on the second floor of the home at 630 Linden Avenue early Friday morning.
Firefighters arrived to find flames and thick smoke coming from the home as the fire reached two alarms.
The family’s mother and father escaped the flames, but two of their children needed to be rescued; they later succumbed to their injuries.
The two kids were rescued by using a ladder, placed onto stretchers, and transported to Cedar Crest by ambulance and transferred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Two Hellertown police officers were also hospitalized with smoke inhalation. One officer has been released, while the other is expected to recover. The parents were also taken to the hospital.
The fire marshal is on scene to begin the investigation.
Hellertown Police Department Corporal John Donato said a woman was outside the home saying her kids were still inside. Officers tried to make entry, but were repelled by the smoke and the flames. Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after and were able to remove the two kids.
Firefighters and investigators are still on the scene, and officials have said the home appears to be a total loss. The cause is now under investigation.
