Lake County (FL) Fire Rescue was called for service on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 4:30 p.m. to a construction accident located at 441 in Lady Lake, where it was determined that a construction worker was entrapped in a hole on scene.

Lake County Fire Rescue and the Villages Fire Rescue crews recovered the victim, working through the night. Crews worked for eight hours constructing barriers of plywood panels inside the trench and shoring the panels to prevent any further collapse, which created a safe working area to dig, vacuum, and search for the buried victim.

After eight hours of intense, uninterrupted search patterns, Lake County Fire Rescue’s Special Operations and Response Team was able to locate the victim, and fully recover the body after an additional two hours of work around 3 a.m. This trench rescue was the first of its kind in Lake County, Florida, and involved more than 65 first responders in order to complete.
