According to a report from NBC Connecticut, the driver of a car that crashed into a Manchester, Connecticut, multi-family house and sparked a large fire early Thursday morning is believed to have died. Mutual aid from surrounding towns was dispatched to help fight the fire.
Just before 3 a.m., fire crews responded to Center Street for reports of a house fire. On arrival, police and firefighters arrived discovered a car against the front of the multi-family building with heavy fire shooting from the car and the house. The driver of the vehicle was found dead in the burning car.
Police said excessive speed appears to be a factor in the crash. The vehicle was going east on Center Street, crossed the double yellow lines, veered off the roadway, went through a fence and trees, and crashed into 207/209 Center Street. The victim, who has yet to be identified, was found dead near the car.
According to fire officials, seven adults and seven children escaped to safety. The damage inflicted on the home has made it inhabitable.
Officials are still on scene investigating the incident.
