Severe Weather Across Virginia, Maryland, D.C. Region Leads to Multiple Fires and Rescues

According to a report from WUSA9, a string of dangerous and severe storms that moved through Washington, D.C.; Maryland; and Virginia overnight wreaked major havoc across many areas of the region Monday evening.

Lightning strikes that hit two homes in Montgomery County, Maryland, one on the 24800 block of Sweet Cherry Lane and the other on Sycamore View Drive, caused fires in both structures.

D.C. Fire and EMS officials responded to the Maryland-Washington, D.C., border, near Prince George’s County, aiding a driver whose vehicle was trapped in high water levels at Eastern Avenue and Addison Street, Northeast.

Dominion Energy, Pepco and SMECO said that around 5,000 customers lost power in the region because of the storms.
