Update, 3:55 p.m. Eastern: Firefighters continued to work to extinguish a massive fire that tore through several buildings in the Mission District of San Francisco.
The initial call came in around 6:30 a.m., Fire Chief Jeanine Nicholson told reporters, and quickly went to a fifth alarm. At the peak of the fire, the San Francisco Fire Deparment had 160 firefighters and 60 pieces of equipment on scene. One firefighter was injured and is being treated at an area hospital, but was expected to be okay.
Approximately six buildings were involved but the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials anticipated being on scene for a considerable length of time.

SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco firefighters are fighting a five-alarm fire involving several buildings in the city’s Mission District neighborhood.
The fire, in the area of Folsom and 13th Street, quickly went to five alarms by 7:25 a.m.
Firefighters have taken a defensive attack due to a building collapse and are working to limit extension into other nearby structures.
