Indianapolis firefighters responded to a fire that affected multiple homes. Indy Battalion Chief Rita Reith sent photos and offered information from the scene.
Crews responded Sunday to find a home on Mallard Glen Court with heavy fire showing from the roof and extending to houses on either side of it. The initial fire building became fully involved, and the sounds of ammunition going off inside the structure prompted companies to retreat from an aggressive offensive attack.
The homeowner says the fire was possibly caused by heavy lightning that had just travelled through the area. He was asleep and alerted by his home alarm system. When he awoke, he smelled smoke, fled the house, and saw fire at the southwest corner of his roof.
Occupants of the neighboring home were alerted to the fire spreading to their home by an alert Uber driver who had just dropped off a customer nearby. The third home sustained damage to the exterior siding.
Damage is estimated at $750,000 for all three homes. One firefighter was transported for possible heat exhaustion.
