This past weekend marks the 81st anniversary of Great New England Hurricane of 1938. The storm that wreaked death and destruction on Long Island, New York, and the New England states. For New London, Connecticut, down wires and high winds inhibited their fighting a devastating fire that destroyed a number of businesses, as well as the Niagara Engine Company No. 1, the city’s oldest fire station.
