NPGA to develop training materials for emergency response teams

NPGA to develop training materials for emergency response teams

The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) has been awarded a grant for Phase I of a comprehensive plan to develop training material for public safety and industrial emergency response teams.

Timothy J. Ferns, chairman of the task force in charge of the program, explains that the project will include the development of a training text and a facilitator`s guide that will serve as a model curriculum for fire service organizations and propane marketers who train their local, county, or state fire training organizations.

The text will cover regulations and standards; container design and construction features for fixed and mobile tanks; tactical emergency response procedure for cylinders, stationary tanks, trucks, railcars, bulk plants, and storage tanks; and offloading and uprighting procedures. The Guide will feature model lesson plans, guidelines for constructing safe training props, and a PC-formatted computer disk for preparing PowerPoint(TM) presentations. The text and Guide are expected to be completed by the end of Spring 1999.

Phase II of the project will involve revising, expanding, and distributing the Handling LP-Gas Leaks and Fires training video currently available from the NPGA. Questions concerning this project may be referred to the NPGA at http://www.propane gas.com.
