Emergency Door Stop
A device to prevent self-locking doors from closing and possibly trapping fire fighters during search and rescue operations has been developed by members of the Orlando, Fla., Fire Department, reports W. Lamar Smith, engineer in the department’s training division. The Big-O safety door block, shown above, is made of bent pieces of metal, riveted together and faced with carpeting to prevent marring door surfaces. The U-shaped section is placed over the top of the door and the flange then prevents the door from closing.
