Managing volunteer fire departments will be the topic of the IAFC pre-conference seminar in Philadelphia on Sat., Sept. 18. Sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation, a line-up of speakers and subjects will include: Chief M.H. (Jim) Estepp, Prince Georges County, Md., Fire Department; “Recruitment of Volunteers”; Assistant Chief Wesley Dolezal, Chesterfield County, Va., Fire Department, “Apparatus Purchasing and Refurbishing”; Rob Stewart, author of “The Volunteer Firefighters Management Book,” “Legal Liabilities”; and Deputy Chief Carl N. Cimino, College Park, Md., Volunteer Fire Department, “Role of the Company Officer in Retaining Volunteers.”

Registration is limited to the first 250 people, and the $25 fee includes lunch, transportation to the fire museum of the Insurance Company of North America, and an evening reception for seminar participants, IAFC and IAFC Foundation officers and directors, and overseas fire officers and wives.

As part of the IAFC membership drive, a $12.50 credit will be given to a seminar participant who becomes a member during the conference. If a member brings to the seminar a nonmember who joins during the conference, the same credit will apply.
