FDIC to Explore ‘New Directions’ March 29-April 1
features
The 1982 Fire Department Instructors Conference has been scheduled for March 29 through April 1 in Memphis.
“Seeking New Directions” will be the conference theme, chosen to “allow the speakers and attendees to seek alternate ways of fulfilling their responsibility to fire and life safety,” according to Ed McCormack, executive director of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, which is sponsoring the FDIC.
Educational opportunities will be in joint sessions for all attendees and in 33 special-interest seminars. At least 85 manufacturers and distributors will participate in the training and education exhibit.
Speakers for the joint sessions will discuss topics as diverse as structural fire fighting, arson investigation, career development, emergency medical service and the interaction of industrial fire brigades and public fire departments.
The special interest seminars are even more diverse. Hazardous materials, protective breathing apparatus and public education will be covered as usual. Other seminars will focus on the management aspects of planning, training programs, industrial fire protection, being a company officer and stress.
An FDIC training clinic on Wednesday afternoon will allow hands-on interaction with new equipment. While those outside demonstrations are under way, producers of visual training aids will show new releases at scheduled times.
