Construction has begun on a new $13 million, three-story headquarters building for Mine Safety Appliances Company (MSA).

Located on an 11.8-acre tract in RIDC Industrial Park in O’Hara Township, Pittsburgh, PA, the 150,000-square-foot building will house approximately 350 employees in corporate, finance, sales, marketing, product development, and administration.

Scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 1987, the building will feature: a fully equipped audio-visual studio for the production of customer training materials, a climate-controlled computer center, a cafeteria, a library, and a modern training area.

MSA manufactures safety-related products, including: respirators, protective hats and clothing, instruments for detecting toxic or combustible gases, computerized networks for data acquisition and control, space filters, pacemaker batteries, and oxygen monitors.

Command Data Systems (CDS) has announced the opening of its Washington, DC, district office. The corporation has appointed Frank Meehan as district manager responsible for the District of Columbia, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

Frank Meehan has been involved in law enforcement for 27 years. He was formerly with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Prior to that, he was police chief of Redondo Beach and Chino, CA.

CDC sells application software solutions to the public safety community. Their major products include: a comprehensive law enforcement records system, computer aided dispatch system, crime analysis system, and fire management records system.

The new Washington, DC, office is located at: 114 Bracken Court, Walkersville, MD 21793.

At its annual meeting in Tarpon Springs, FL, the Fire Equipment Manufacturer’s Association Inc. (FEMA) elected the following people as officers of the Association: A. O. Pittinger was elected as president and William Henderson was elected as vice-president.

Mr. Pittinger has been with Badger-Powhatan in Ranson, WV, for the past 20 years. He was a volunteer fireman for 30 years, a career firefighter for 7 years, and an assistant fire chief for 13 years.

Mr. Henderson has been with Walter Kidde & Company in Wake Forest, NC, for the past 3V2 years. He has been in the fire protection industry for the past 20 years.

FEMA Inc. represents 22 manufacturers of fire protection equipment in the United States and Canada. FEMA’s primary purpose is to promote the advancement of fire protection.
