Apparatus Chassis

Hendrickson’s 1871 Series of custom fire apparatus chassis is available with the following standard features: 6-71 N Detroit Diesel engine, CM-60,5-speed synchromesh transmission, 172 to 190-inch wheelbase (tandem axles 191 to 240-inch), a 13,500pound front axle and a 18,500-pound rear axle (tandem axles, 34,000 pounds). It has a five man cab. Options include fully padded dash, padded door panels and padded steering wheel.

Absorbent Bags

Soak All bags are offered by Pressing Matters to absorb up to 4 1/2 pounds of oil, gasoline, or other flammable liquids. Soak Alls are not flammable when saturated. Soak All bags can be used to eliminate slips and falls.

Portable Tank

Burch Manufacturing Co., Inc. has developed the Kolaps-A-Tank series, designed especially for the smaller urban and rural area fire departments.

The new model SP Kolaps-A-Tank is self supporting, and has a 1500-gallon capacity. 60 inch diameter fill opening, and a 10 inch diameter tube, to ensure fast emptying. SP folds up to 2 x 7.5 feet.

The model FK has capacities of 1000, 1500, and 2100 gallons. The fold-out frame is of ⅞ inch O.D. steel tubing.

The 500-gallon FDAG can be used alone or to fill a SP tank from a pick up truck. It is completely enclosed and self-supported with a 6 inch diameter inlet, 10-inch diameter outlet, and 500 gallon capacity. All tanks are made of PVC coated nylon.

Patient Mover

Dixie, U.S.A., Inc. introduces the Buchhoard Smooth Mover, a high-density, stress-relieved, static-inhibited, polyethelene back board that is designed so that patients can be transferred from stretcher to table by one or two persons.

Badiotranslucent, it can be left in place during X-ray procedures. The Smooth Mover is available in various sizes.

Dual Tank Carrier

The dual tank carrier, available from Banter Engineering, is primarily designed to enable the fire fighter to carry two tanks of compressed air in one hand. A universal bracket was constructed to allow the dual tank carrier to be used with all other cylinders, according to the manufacturer.

The carrier can be used as a spanner for 1 1/2 to 5-inch hose couplings, a key for shutting off valves, and a door stop, by placing it over a loose hinge pin to hang bet ween the door and the jamb.

Pre-fab Training Tower

A pre-fabricated, self-framing, all steel training tower for introductory and intermediate training purposes has been introduced by Werner-Herbison-Padgett.

Features of the tower, which occupies a space of 14′ x 14’, include two stories with sloped roof for roof ladder work, full door and window openings, internal stairway to second floor, and a “drop-in” roof panel for ventilation and saw practice. The entire structure can be assembled with hand tools.

Alarm Monitoring System

A computerized alarm monitoring system which will report on and control a variety of fire security and building service functions is now available from Receptors, Inc.

The 8400 Series Alarm Monitor, a microcomputer-based proprietery system, displays and prints alarm descriptions and locations. The system includes a keyboard, CRT, printer, electronics, and uninterruptable power supply. The 8400 Series is designed to monitor and issue commands to 512 zones.

Fire Boots

The Ranger Rubber Company has introduced a fire fighting boot designed with safety features that provide visibility. Scotchliter brand tape is fluorescent yellow by daylight, but at night illuminates to a bright white. This boot has the Ranger Safe-Toe steel toe cap that is designed to exceed the OSHA adopted ANSI standards of 2500 pounds of compression and impact requirements of ANSI Z41.1-1967 Class 75 standard.

A Poly-Rubber process protects all the boots from aging and wear. Ranger provides stainless steel, heel to toe midsole, cushion insoles, a padded shin guard, and tempered steel shanks.

This insulated storm king boot (no.4127) is also available in knee high height (no.3127).

Respiratory Air Compressor

The SA series respiratory air compressor from Subsea Air Systems delivers high pressure breathing air which, t he manufacturer states, surpasses the CGA standards for both respiratory air (Grade D) and medical air (Grade H). Outputs range from 5 to 17 cfm at 5000 psi.

The systems are automated and protected by solid state controls and monitors. Included are purification monitors, automaticcondensate drains, output air temperature monitoring, full interstage gage panel and carbon monoxide removal.

Light Towers

Zip-Up, Inc. has released an improved mobile, cable and winch-operated floodlighting system. Improvements were made in the mast, body design and electrical features. A gull wing design, generator enclosure now allows easier access for maintenance and light storage.

Electrical improvements include a plug-in ballast design and Safe Guard system to protect lamps, ballasts and the generator from damage due to improper starting and shutdown.

Options include galvanized/aluminum or all steel construction.

Pocket Scanner

A pocket scanner is now available from Russel Industries, Inc. The 10 channel scanner, used for high low VHP bands, has the following major features: LED digital display readout, squelch control. AC battery charger, and over-passing switches to lock out unwarranted monitoring.

The scanner has a l.0uV sensitivity scanning capability at the rate of 15 channels per second and uses rechargeable nickel cadmium batteries.

In addition, there is a control for manual/ automatic pushbutton stepping from channel to channel and a one second delay switch to hold a desired channel position.

Recorder

Omnicron has introduced a recorder that documents 10 hours of telephone conversations or two-way radio messages on standard tape cassettes.

Standard features of the CTR-8LP recorder include: monitor while recording, end-of-tape alarm, digital tape footage counter, LED record indicator, AC/rechargeable battery operation, and adjustable audio threshold with DC sensing to prevent activation between conversations.

The recorder has the following optional accessories: TCE-124 talking clock to automatically index each recording with a verba] announcement of the time, ASC-920 recorder sequencer for automatic sequential operation of two recorders, TCR-600 FCC registered telephone coupler; RMC-8 remote microphone, and RBC-4 rechargeable battery pack.

Utility Strap

Brown and Fulkerson Mfg. Co. Inc. announces the B & F fire fighter’s utility strap which was designed by two California fire fighters.

The strap will fit easily into a fire fighter’s coat pocket. It is designed with a loop in each end and is tested to 1000 pounds.

Some of the uses for the strap include hanging smoke ejectors high on ladders and doors; lowering victims out windows; carrying hose and tools aloft while keeping the hands free; rapelling with the use of a carabiner; carrying victims on the fire fighter’s back, leaving hands free for safely coming down the ladder; tying off ladders; securing oneself to ladders during ventilation of a roof; tying hose to ladders; pulling donut, skid and flat loads from fire trucks; and securing oneself to the fire truck.
