Operation Life Safety launches OLSST program

The Order of Life Safety Servants (OLSST) recognition program recently created by Operation Life Safety (OLS) will recognize fire service members who have distinguished themselves as supporters of built-in fire protection, public education, and code enforcement. The “Order” refers to an order of knights pledged to uphold the principles of “First Prepare, then Defend.” There will be three levels of knighthood in the Order: Knight Bachelor, entry level; Knight Banneret; and Baron.

Any current or former member of the fire service, regardless of rank, may be appointed. Individuals outside of the fire service will be eligible for honorary knighthood. OPS will determine eligibility. Induction into the Order is by invitation only. There is no formal application process. However, nominations are encouraged.

Knights will receive a service ribbon for their uniforms, a lapel pin for civilian attire, and a certificate of appointment. A medal for formal attire is planned but will not be immediately available. The OLS staff is gathering information on prospective candidates; induction will begin sometime this month. n
