E-ONE acquired the patented Rhino multiposition bumper turret, used for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicles, from Crash Rescue Equipment Services, Inc. More than 250 Rhino bumper turrets have been sold in the past 10 years. The Rhino combines the dual flow rate of conventional primary turrets with the ability to lower its vertical position providing extinguishment characteristics to gain control of the fire. The Rhino will be available in two configurations: 375-750 gallons-per-minute (gpm) and 600-1,200 gpm. ELKHART BRASS appointed Sean O’Connell as its vice president of finance & administration. O’Connell will be responsible for the financial reporting and planning for the company and he will manage the Finance, IT, and Human Resource departments. O’Connell brings 20 years of financial experience to Elkhart Brass, with 15 years in leadership roles and multiple years of experience with manufacturing companies. Most recently, he was the vice president of finance at Elkhart Products, where he was responsible for the financial activities of the company.

MICHIGAN POWER CLEANING‘s Operation Wildfire 2012 donation of its UHP brush fire foam skid unit will be awarded on July 4, 2012. The fire unit has a 60-gallon water tank; a 2½-gallon foam tank; a 3½-gallon-per-minute Cat pump, which produces 1,500 pounds per square inch; a six-horsepower Kohler engine; a 200-foot hose reel; and a twin foam gun that can apply Class A or B foam in a straight stream or in a wider white line pattern. The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) section of the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS (IAFC) made a sponsor-level donation to the National EMS Memorial Service (NEMSMS). The EMS Section executive board awarded the donation to NEMSMS to remember and honor the men and women of America’s emergency medical services who have died in the line of duty. The IAFC EMS section is a forum that addresses EMS issues for the leadership of America’s fire and emergency service, provides guidance and direction to the IAFC board and membership, and represents fire-based EMS issues to the federal government and other EMS partners. www.iafc.org.

The PROFESSIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS OF NEVADA BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION donated $10,000 to the United Service Organizations (USO)—Las Vegas. The donation will go toward expanding the USO Travel Center, which functions as an airport lounge for military personnel, veterans, and military families. The center will expand by another 1,100 square feet to create an area devoted to children, including a place where service members can record themselves reading books to send video messages to their children. The center serves troops of all branches of the service from Nevada and all parts of the nation. www.pffn.org.

LIBERTY MUTUAL INSURANCE awarded 10 community fire departments in three community size categories a $10,000 grant through its Be Fire Smart Safety Pledge Program. From September 1 through October 31, residents from the winning cities visited www.BeFireSmart.com and took an online quiz, answering 10 questions to test their fire safety knowledge. The recipients in the Small Division are Denair (CA) Volunteer Fire Department and Merrimac (MA) Fire Department. Recipients in the Medium Division are Bridgewater (MA) Fire Department, Caledonia (MI) Township Fire Department, Covington (KY) Fire Department, Middleton (WI) Fire District, Weymouth (MA) Fire Department, and Wilmington (MA) Fire Department. Recipients in the Large Division are Lexington (KY) Division of Fire & Emergency Services and Norfolk (VA) Fire-Rescue.

The INSTITUTION OF FIRE ENGINEERS—UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (IFE—USA) BRANCH announced the election of its officers for 2011. The new officers are Scott D. Kerwood, PhD, CFO, MIFireE (president); Harry Carter, PhD, MIFireE (vice president); and Chris P. Riley, MS, CFO, MIFireE (secretary). The Branch’s new leadership will continue the ongoing operations of the Vision 20/20 project. With funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Fire Fighters Fire Prevention and Safety Grant program, the IFE‐USA Branch has established a steering committee comprised of noted fire service and related agency leaders to guide a national strategic planning process for the fire loss prevention that results in a national plan that will coordinate activities and fire prevention efforts. www.ife‐usa.org.
