The Rombout (NY) Fire Department designed this RESCUE 1 rescue truck primarily for response to motor vehicle accidents, says Chief John Lucarello. It is also used for fireground support and has a command center in the cab.

Features/Equipment:

  • SUTPHEN Monarch chassis with 243-inch wheelbase and a 10-inch raised roof cab with three doors, six crew seats, and a command center with one seat;
  • 28-inch extended front bumper with one HANNAY electric cord reel and one HURST hydraulic reel;
  • CUMMINS ISM 435-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • 22-foot, four-inch nonwalk-in rescue body with ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors, full lift-up rear staircase, 200-pound oil absorbent hopper in upper storage compartment, and two CARE FREE OF COLORADO awnings (one on each side);
  • EAGLE four-bottle air cascade system with SIERRA booster and fill station;
  • WARN 4½-ton portable winch with four receivers;
  • HURST tool with four additional hydraulic reels; and
  • light and power with ONAN 35-kw pto generator, WILL BURT Night Scan Power Lite, nine FRC floodlights (one brow, six on body, and two tripod at rear), four WHELEN fixed scene lights under awnings, and four HANNAY electric cord reels.

The High Rolls (NM) Fire Department designed this ROSENBAUER pumper with a 24-foot overall length for more maneuverability, says Chief Mark Klaene. It is designed for response to structure and urban interface fires.

Features/Equipment:

  • FREIGHTLINER m2 4 × 4 chassis with 177-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS ISC 330-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission and pump-and-roll capability;
  • HALE RSD single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with HYPRO Foam Pro 2001 system, ELKHART Sidewinder monitor, three crosslays (two 1¾-inch, one 2½-inch), and 2½-inch rear preconnect;
  • UPF 780-gallon water and 20-gallon Class A foam tanks;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and
  • two CODE 3 scene lights on body and one UNITY spotlight behind cab.

The Orange County (CA) Fire Authority designed this PIERCE rescue vehicle as a USAR truck. Engineer Joe LaRocca says it carries Type 1 heavy rescue equipment designated by the California OES and is available for local, regional, and statewide response. It is cross-staffed by technical rescue truck crews and centrally stationed, responding first-out to technical recue and special calls along with the technical rescue truck.

Features/Equipment:

  • Arrow XT chassis with 270-inch wheel base and 14-inch raised-roof cab with six seats;
  • DETROIT Series 60 515-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • 26-foot nonwalk-in body with ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors, rear ZICO Quic Ladder to coffin compartments, and two ZIP DEE awnings;
  • storage for air bags, plywood, shoring, and long lumber;
  • one each APT 60- and 90-pound paving breakers;
  • WARN 4½-ton portable winch with right receivers (two each side);
  • two portable anchor points;
  • VAN AIR 300-cfm and 125-psi air compressor;
  • HURST tools;
  • four HANNAY reels (two each electric cord and air);
  • ZOLL AED; and
  • light and power with ONAN 40-kw pto generator, WILL BURT Night Scan, 12 HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS floodlights (six portable, four on body, two on tripods), and six CODE 3 fixed scene lights on body.
