Line-of-Duty Deaths, 1999

July 27: Firefighter Joseph Devine, 49, a 10-year veteran of the Philadelphia (PA) Fire Department, died after collapsing while extinguishing a row home fire.

July 30: Firefighter Kenneth F. Clinch, 52, of the Mount Marion (NY) Volunteer Fire Department, died after collapsing while operating at a car fire.

August 5: Assistant Chief Richard C. Bacon, 46, of the Dunstable (MA) Volunteer Fire Department, died after collapsing at the fire station after returning from a fire call.

August 6: Chief Michael C. Cupp, 48, of the Cygnet (OH) Volunteer Fire Department, died after suffering a massive heart attack after extinguishing an outside fire.

August 8: Firefighter James Clark, 41, a 15-year veteran of the Midwest City (OK) Fire Department, died from severe injuries after being struck by an automobile while operating at the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

August 14: Firefighter Frank W. Wood, 54, of the Flourtown (PA) Volunteer Fire Department, died after suffering a heart attack while operating at the scene of a nursing home fire.

August 16: Firefighter Robert W. Meshell, 30, of the Huttig (AR) Volunteer Fire Department, died from severe burns after a weeklong battle. He was engulfed in fire when a gas tank exploded as he was advancing a hoseline at a motor home fire.
