Unique Fire Phenomenon: Fiery Tumbleweed Whirlwind

Firefighters from various agencies participating in a prescribed burn of 150 acres at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver, Colorado, witnessed a rare event in extreme fire behavior: a dust devil picking up hundreds of flaming tumbleweeds.

A report from the NBC said dust devils typically form on clear, sunny days when hot air near the earth surface rises quickly through cooler air above, causing a twister effect. No firefighters were injured, and crews were able to get the burn back under control rapidly.
