  JAMES A. MILKE was named president of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) for 2012. Milke is a professor and the chair of the department of fire protection engineering at the University of Maryland. Milke has served on the SFPE’s board of directors since 2004 and is a SFPE Fellow. In 2002, he received the Harold E. Nelson Award in 2002, and in 2009 he received the SFPE John L. Bryan Mentor Award. In 1981, Milke became a faculty member at the University of Maryland department of fire protection engineering and was promoted to department head in 2011. www.sfpe.org.

KENNETH BURRIS was named chief executive officer of Witt Associates. Burris will succeed James Lee Witt, who was named chairman of the board. Burris brings more than 35 years of international emergency management experience to the position. As chief operating officer of Witt Associates, he managed the firm’s day-to-day worldwide operations. Burris has also been the chief operating officer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the regional director of FEMA’s Region IV, and the chief operating officer of the U.S. Fire Administration. www.wittassociates.com.

DAN W. BAILEY was named president of the International Association of Wildland Fire (IAWF). Bailey had served on the IAFW board of directors for four years including two terms as its treasurer. Bailey is the director of the Wildland Fire, Natural Resource, and Natural Hazard Programs for the International Code Council (ICC). Bailey also served as the USDA Forest Service national program manager for Urban Interface Fire and Firewise until 2005 and continues to serve on numerous national and international boards, associations, and groups including United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s Global Wildland Fire Alliance.
