Firefighter Killed in Training Accident

Western Springs, Ill. -Firefighter Willard Christoffer, 54, of the Western Springs (IL) Fire Department, died as the result of falling from an aerial ladder during a routine training exercise in a shopping center parking lot on May 14. He has been a paid on-call probationary member of the department since January.

Christoffer fell about 65 feet while descending the aerial ladder and landed on the ladder’s turntable. He was immediately treated by paramedics who were on the scene and transported to the hospital. The accident is under investigation.
