UMD Students Arrested for Bonfire Involvement

April 11. COLLEGE PARK, MD. – Two University of Maryland (UMD) students have been arrested in connection with a bonfire set in College Park on Saturday, April 7, after the UMD Terrapins lost to Duke in the Final Four college basketball competition. The loss led to protests that resulted in the setting of several bonfires.

UMD students Josh Wiedman, of Pennsylvania, and Jeremy Duncan, of Missouri, were charged in connection with the largest bonfire (estimated to have been about 30 feet). According to Station WJLA, the bonfire caused about $500,000 damage to a Comcast cable line that serves about 30,000 customers.

University of Maryland Police has posted on its Web site photos of students suspected of contributing to the bonfire. Anyone who can identify the people in the photos are asked to call Prince George’s County CrimeSolvers at (301) 735-1111. Awards of up to $1,000 may be given to those whose information leads to an arrest, according to the Police.
