>> From September 12 to 15, more than 800 burn survivors, their families, caregivers, burn care professionals, and firefighters attended the PHOENIX SOCIETY‘s World Burn Congress at the Frontier Airlines Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to share experiences with other survivors, increase their knowledge about recovery, and learn about support networks. This year’s conference was hosted by Columbia St. Mary’s Regional Burn Center and the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety. >> The BERGEN COUNTY LAW & PUBLIC SAFETY INSTITUTE (BCLPSI) will conduct a day of “Training to Make You Think” on November 10, 2012, in Mahwah, New Jersey. Some of these classes offer New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Continuing Education Units. These programs will offer lectures, hands-on activities, and group discussions. >> The NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) is now accepting first responders’ applications for financial assistance to receive Electric Vehicle Safety Training, a nationwide program designed to help firefighters and other first responders prepare for the growing number of electric vehicles on the road in the United States and the emergencies they may present. >> The ELECTRONIC SECURITY ASSOCIATION (ESA) awarded $10,000 in scholarships to students from Connecticut and Florida as part of the association’s annual Youth Scholarship Program. Emma Soneson of Higganum, Connecticut, received a first-place scholarship of $7,500, while Courtney Keene of Tampa, Florida, won $2,500 for second place. Since the ESA Youth Scholarship Program was created in 1996, the association and its affiliated Chartered Chapters have donated more than $330,000 in scholarship funds to children of police officers and firefighters. www.ESAweb.org.
