The Casper (WY) Fire EMS Department protects a community of 60,000 in its incorporated areas. Battalion Chief Daniel Griswold says the department uses this SPARTAN ERV platform to respond to fires, hazmats, and rescue calls and to assist other public safety agencies. The department has residential and commercial occupancies, with several multistoried structures.

Features/Equipment:

  • Gladiator chassis with 253-inch wheelbase and five-inch raised roof cab with six seats;
  • CUMMINS ISX 15 600-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • ROM roll-up compartment doors;
  • 100-foot rear mount platform with 1,000-pound payload capacity and 18-foot six-inch outrigger spread;
  • two ELKHART Scorpion monitors on the platform;
  • 10 wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and
  • light and power with a HARRISON 10-kw hydraulic generator, six WHELEN scene lights on body and platform, and two HANNAY electric cord reels.

The Bossier City (LA) Fire Department designed this FERRARA heavy rescue truck for response to fires, hazmats, high-angle and confined space rescue, and water rescue, says Deputy Chief Steve Pennell. The department also responds to motor vehicle accidents and medical calls in its district.

Features/Equipment:

  • Igniter XLFD chassis with 252-inch wheelbase, 24-inch extended front bumper, and 18-inch raised-roof cab with four seats and an EMS cabinet behind the driver;
  • CUMMINS ISL 9 450-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • 18-foot non-walk-in body with ROM roll-up compartment doors;
  • WARN six-ton front mounted winch;
  • Two-bottle air cascade system and rack for 16 spare SCBA cylinders;
  • HURST rescue tools, two HANNAY hydraulic and one air hose reels, and one CMW hydraulic hose reel;
  • PHYSIO CONTROL AED; and
  • light and power with an ONAN Protec 25-kw pto-driven generator, WILL BURT six-kw Night Scan, six WHELEN scene lights (four on body and two on tripods at rear), two FRC brow lights, and two HANNAY electric cord reels.

The City of Lompoc (CA) Fire Department uses this KME interface pumper to respond first-out on vegetation fires, says Battalion Chief Mark Bray. The city has urban interface challenges around its perimeter with pockets of brush and chaparral within its boundaries. The department also responds to wildland fires on mutual aid.

  • INTERNATIONAL 7400 4 × 4 chassis with 177-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab with medical cabinet and under-the-seat SCBA cylinder storage;
  • INTERNATIONAL MaxxForce 9 330-hp diesel engine and ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • HALE QPAK single-stage, pto-driven 750-gpm pump with DARLEY auxiliary diesel pump and remote pump controls;
  • two front bumper 2½-inch discharges (one reduced with a short length of ¾- inch booster line and the other with a 1¾-inch line), one 1¾-inch crosslay, one ¾-inch booster reel midship, and one rear 2½-inch discharge (with 1½-inch wye and preconnect on one side);
  • FOAM PRO 1600 system;
  • KME stainless-steel 500-gallon water and 20-gallon foam tanks;
  • three wheel well sleeves each side (two with spare SCBA cylinders and one with a hand extinguisher);
  • PHILLIPS AED; and
  • two FRC scene lights (one each side of body) and two WHELEN scene lights at rear.
