Frank J. Zator has joined the Fire Systems division of Chemetron Corporation as vice president of engineering.

Richard A. Banfield has been named plant manager of Rockwell International’s Truck Axle division plant in Newark, Ohio, and Robert L. Ayres has been promoted to succeed Banfield as plant manager of the division’s plant in New Castle, Pa.

George R. Malley has been appointed director of Safety and Environmental Control at Mine Safety Appliance Company (MSA), Pittsburgh, Pa. In his new position, Malley will coordinate all company safety and work environment programs.

Douglas W. Towle has been named vice president of marketing and has been elected to the board of directors of the Globe Manufacturing Company, Pittsfield, N.H.

John P. Gibson, vice president of Dictograph Security Systems, Inc. has been named chairman of the Automatic Detection Committee of the International Association of Fire Chiefs for the ninth consecutive year. The appointment was announced by John Swindle, Association president. _.

Jack O’Dowd has joined Aerotron, Inc. as regional sales manager in charge of the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. O’Dowd will be headquartered in Chicago.

National Testing Corporation (NTC) has purchased the Million Company’s Fire Division. National Testing offers safety inspection services. The new corporate and service facilities are located in Lake Forest, California. The firm also maintains a branch in Fall River, Mass.

The appointment of John L. Oakley to vice president of sales was announced by Emergency One, Inc., of Ocala, Fla. The company has recently expanded its’ manufacturing facility. The new facility is totally self-contained, with a test pit on the premises.

H. Curtis Clifford has been appointed to the position of director of customer service for American LaFrance.

Robert Maybee, president of RixsonFiremark, Inc., has been elected vice president of the Conrac Corporation. Maybee is in charge of the company’s industrial group, which includes Rixson-Firemark, the Machine Tool Division in Westminister, Calif.; and the Goodrich Division, Hudsonville, Mich.

Paul A. Jacquand has joined the Hale Fire Pump Company as export sales manager. In his new capacity, Jacquand will be in charge of developing international markets, through Hale’s worldwide network of distributors. In addition, Jacquand will work with Hale’s domestic customers, assisting them in overseas distribution of fire pumps.

John T. Ryan III, and Leo N. Short have been elected vice presidents of MSA International, a division of Mine Safety Appliances Company. In his new capacity, Ryan will direct the operation of MSA’s subsidiaries in Brazil, Chile and Peru, as well as the company’s marketing activities in other South American and Caribbean countries. Short is responsible for the operations of MSA subsidiaries in France, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain and The United Kingdom.

Lion Uniform, Inc. has announcedtthe purchase of the MasonDixon product line from the Steel Grip Corporation. The purchase became effective on May 1, 1978. Mason-Dixon is a manufacturer of fire fighters’ protective clothing since 1960. Lion Uniform officials stated the manufacture of the Mason-Dixon garments will be moved to their existing manufacturing facilities in Beattyville, Ky., or Lake City, Tenn.

Edward Smith has been promoted to Northeastern regional sales manager of Eagle Signal Corporation. Smith will be responsible for the sales distribution network and dealer organizations in the Northeastern region, including the New England States, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Grumman Allied Industries has announced a new operating group to be called Grumman Emergency Products, headquartered in Roanoke, Va. A new facility for the manufacture of fire trucks is nearing completion there. This new group is composed of Howe Fire Apparatus Company, Inc., The Oren Roanoke Corporation, and Coast Fire Apparatus Company. These companies will continue present manufacturing operations at their respective plants in Anderson, Indiana, Vinton, Virginia, and Martinez, California. Grumman Emergency Vehicles, which manufactures ambulances and emergency vehicles, will be part of this group and will continue to manufacture in Vinton, Va. Grumman’s NPO Automated Flow Control System will add another segment to the new group.

Plant and office additions have been completed at Pierce Manufacturing Inc., Appleton, Wise. The addition brings the total area of Pierce facilities to approximately 290,000 square feet. Two floors of general office space were added, and an additional 44,600 square feet were added to an existing 182,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Approximately 20,000 square feet is devoted to the Pierce service and repair center, sales center, and warehouse while two additional rented buildings add another 14,000 square feet.

The Champion Company marked its 100th anniversary in May, 1978. Dr. A.A. Baker, a local physician of Springfield, Ohio, founded the company in 1878. The Springfield Equipment Company, manufacturers of paramedic and rescue ambulances, is one of the four divisions of the company.

Rome D. Edmondson has been appointed to the position of quality control manager for Ferno-Washington Inc. In his new capacity, Edmondson will be responsible for establishing a corporate quality assurance program, quality control standards in the manufacturing and assembly areas, approval of finished products and inspection of returned goods. He will report directly to the president. Scribner C. Dailey has been appointed vice president, marketing. In his new position, Dailey will assume full responsibility for coordinating the company’s marketing activities in the emergency and safety fields.

T.C. Jewell has been named vice president of marketing of Fyrnetics, Inc. Jewell will be responsible for marketing the company’s entire line of smoke alarms under its own Lifesaver trade name.

Gary L. Geren has been named manager, advertising and sales promotions for the Superior Division of Sheller-Globe Corp.

The Fire Service Products, Snorkel Division of A-T-O Inc., has announced the appointment of General Safety Equipment Corp. as their sales and service representative in Iowa. Parins Fire & Rescue will represent General Safety Equipment in Iowa for the sales and service of Snorkels, TeleSqurt.s and Squrts, as well as General Safety’s full line of motorized fire department apparatus.

James F. Mazak has been appointed manager, customer service for the BFGoodrich Engineered Systems Division.

J. Patrick Short has been named marketing manager for Eagle Signal Corporation. In his new position, Short will be responsible for all marketing activities, including advertising and public relations.

Rixson-Firemark, Inc. has named William P. Roach Jr., and J. Robert Calvert as manufacturer representatives for the company. Roach’s territory includes western Pennsylvania and the State of West Virginia. Calvert’s territory will be southern Indiana and the State of Kentucky.
