House Passes Resolution Honoring Firefighters Killed in New York

WASHINGTON, DC -The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution on June 27 (H. R. 172) honoring Fire Department of New York Firefighters John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, who died while fighting a fire in Queens, New York, on Father’s Day. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Felix Grucci Jr. (R-NY), was adopted 424-0.

Members of both parties spoke, acknowledging the firefighters’ bravery and sacrifice and expressed condolences to their families.

Some Members of Congress, including Rep. Curt Weldon (R-PA) and Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), talked about the need for increased federal funding for America’s fire departments and for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
