The San Francisco Fire Department has initiated a program of bilingual instructions in the correct use of street fire alarm boxes. Because of the many languages spoken by residents of San Francisco, it is imperative that instructions for the proper use of fire alarm boxes be posted on the door of the street box.

Decals in the Chinese language have been made available for placement on street boxes in areas of the city where many citizens use Chinese as the primary language. These areas involve the northeast and northwest sections of the city, which include Chinatown and peripheral areas, and the Richmond District.

This program is the result of on-going communications between Chief of Department Andrew C. Casper and Ms. I ,eona I ,au, project director, Bilingual Services, Chinese for Affirmative Action.
