IFSI Announces New Class

The Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) announced the addition of a new class to its curriculum. The Industrial Confined Space Rescue – Level I & II course prepares local responders to operate as members on a rescue team within the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and effectively take action during a permit-required confined space rescue.

Designed in accordance with NFPA & OSHA Standards, the class covers the federal and state regulations, use of specialized equipment for atmospheric monitoring, commercial entry and retrieval systems and employment of rescuer-constructed retrieval systems. The Industrial Confined Space Rescue– Level I & II also emphasizes rescuer safety, scene management, patient care and movement, and the construction and operation of retrieval systems. In addition, instructors will conduct simulated rescue evolutions involving various rescue problems.

There are no pre-requisites for the class and upon successful completion of the class, the student will receive a Pro Board certificate.

IFSI encourages rescuers and responders starting out and ones with years of experience to take these types of courses to further develop and refine their skill sets throughout their careers. For more information about this course or others, visit: https://www.fsi.illinois.edu, click on the “Courses” link and type in the name of the course.
