APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Chugiak (AK) Fire Department designed this KME pumper with a compressed air foam system (CAFS) that supplies most of the preconnected hoselines. Chief Gary Davis says the water is supplied primarily by tanker shuttle and the CAFS is effective and uses less water.

UPF 1,250-gallon water and 50-gallon foam tanks;

ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors;

• four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;

The Cambridge (IL) Fire Department uses this ALEXIS rescue truck for EMS, first response, and auto extrication calls and as a personnel carrier, air truck, and light unit, Chief Tim Sipp says.

The Pagosa Fire Protection District in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, designed six SMEAL apparatus (three pumpers, three tenders) with four-wheel drive. The district’s jurisdiction ranges from high desert to alpine regions and includes a treacherous mountain highway; some areas have steep terrain with no hydrants, according to Chief Warren J. Grams.

The Weiser (ID) Fire Department designed this PIERCE pumper with four-wheel drive for winter conditions, according to Chief Bud Fisher. This feature, combined with the short wheelbase (specified because of tight apparatus quarters), enhances maneuverability in the wildland interface. The CAFS conserves water to achieve a quick knockdown.

UPF 750-gallon water and 20-gallon foam tanks; and

DOVER roll-up door at rear.

The Fair Lawn (NJ) Rescue Squad designed its RESCUE 1 medium rescue truck for quick response to motor vehicle accidents, according to Lieutenant Christopher Hoitsma. The squad specified a short wheelbase to address street congestion and roll-up compartment doors for safety while operating in the street.
