On October 30, 2005 at 19:52 hours, Arlington (WA) Fire Department units were dispatched to a reported industrial building fully involved in fire. Upon arrival, crews faced a well-involved fire in a furniture manufacturing facility. The facility of 50 plus years had no inherent fire protection and a heavy fuel load of furniture-grade plywood and dimensional lumber.
Sixty-nine firefighters from seven agencies fought the two-alarm fire for five hours. Three aerial master streams provided the biggest impact towards fire suppression. Units employed a defensive attack throughout the incident. No injuries occurred. A national response team from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms working under the Department of Justice is investigating the cause of the fire, which destroyed an estimated $5 million in property, and resulted in the loss of 60 jobs.
