Apparatus Deliveries

The Brookhaven (PA) Fire Company designed this KME as a “wet rescue” and a multitask unit using limited staffing. Chief Rob Montella says it provides rescue, fire suppression, and water supply capability. The older truck had less compartmentation and no pump or tank.

Features/Equipment:

  • Predator Severe Service 100-inch LFD chassis with 244-inch wheelbase, 18-inch extended front bumper, and 16-inch raised-roof cab with eight seats;
  • CUMMINS ISX 15 500-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • HALE DSD single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with 1¾-inch front bumper line, 2½-inch blitz line, and two 1¾-inch preconnects;
  • UPF 500-gallon water tank;
  • 23-foot, eight-inch walk-around rescue body with AMDOR roll-up compartment doors, Stokes storage above the pump house, GIRARD armless RV awning, and eight wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • six-cylinder air cascade system with APPLETON Space Saver two-position fill station;
  • HURST rescue tools with three hydraulic reels;
  • FEDERAL SIGNAL dual camera system;
  • ZOLL AED; and
  • light and power with a HARRISON 30-kw pto/hydraulic generator, WILL BURT Night Scan, 10 FRC lights (two brow and eight scene on body), and two HANNAY electric cord reels.

Fillmore (CA) Fire Rescue uses this EMERGENCY VEHICLES, INC. rescue truck as a first-out unit for medical calls, rescues, fires, and support, says Chief Bill Herrera.

Features/Equipment:

  • INTERNATIONAL 4300 chassis with a 163-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS ISB 300-hp diesel engine with an ALLISON 2200 EVS automatic transmission;
  • 12-foot nonwalk-in body with a transverse Stokes and backboard compartment and rear ROM roll-up compartment door;
  • three FRC scene lights (one on each side of body);
  • HOLMATRO rescue tools; and
  • PHYSIO CONTROL Life Pak defibrillator.

The Surf City (NJ) Fire Department protects an area on a barrier island with only one access road to the mainland. Chief Mike Wolfschmidt says this SPARTAN ER pumper replaced an engine and a rescue truck and adds an elevated stream capability. The rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy has accelerated greatly, resulting in larger and closely spaced dwellings, causing extreme firefighting challenges during high winds and severe weather. The elevated stream can reach setback homes – another concern for the department.
