  • WATEROUS appointed Dan Reese to the position of vice president of operations. This new position was created to oversee the increased demand of manufacturing because of the rise in domestic and international sales. Under this role, Reese will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Waterous manufacturing facility including fire pumps, hydrants, and valves, and reporting to CEO Bill Smith. Previously, Reese was the president of a division of Holmatro, Inc. general manager of Alexis Fire Equipment, and vice president/general manager of Akron Brass and Weldon Technologies. www.waterousco.com.
  • SCOTT SAFETY was selected by the State of California to provide industry-leading technology and equipment to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to help keep a team of 5,600 firefighters safe in the harshest environments. ALLSTAR Fire Equipment, Scott Safety’s distribution partner headquartered in Arcadia, California, helped initiate the new contract and will service CAL FIRE throughout California. For CAL FIRE, the new equipment meets the agency’s need for durable, reliable, cutting-edge protection. The state awarded the contract after a lengthy field trial and evaluation.   • GLENN CORBETT was awarded the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association’s 2017 Life Safety Advocate Award. Corbett is an associate professor of fire service at John Jay College in New York City, a technical editor of Fire Engineering, and a member of the New Jersey State Fire Code Council. Previously, Corbett served as an assistant chief for the Waldwick (NJ) Fire Department and is a former president of the New Jersey Society of Fire Service Instructors. The annual Life Safety Advocate Award is given to a fire safety professional who has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the safety of the public through innovative efforts including legislative, educational, enforcement or other effective means. www.femalifesafety.org.

  • GREG RAY was named the new chief of the Ashland (KY) Fire Department (AFD). Ray has been a member of the AFD for 26 years, serving as a deputy chief for the past eight. He was named acting chief on February 1 when former chief Scott Penix retired. Ray received his associate degree from Ashland Community and Technical College and earned a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University.

  • BRAD HANNIG was named the new chief of the Logan City (UT) Fire Department. Hannig began his fire and emergency services career in 1990 as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician. He joined the Las Vegas (NV) Fire and Rescue unit in 1992 and worked there for many years as a firefighter, an engineer, a captain, and a battalion chief. Most recently, he was the chief of Ivins City (UT) Fire and Rescue. He has a bachelor’s degree in fire administration from Columbia Southern University.

Two workers were killed and another seriously injured in an explosion Tuesday at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility near the Atlanta airport.
