The Brainerd (MN) Fire Department replaced two vehicles with this CUSTOM FIRE rescue pumper. Chief Tim Holmes says the unit contains all of the department’s rescue tools and firefighting equipment. The pumper serves an urban and rural area and has a large water tank because a large portion of the area has no hydrants.
Features/Equipment:
- SPARTAN Metro Star chassis with 190-inch wheelbase and 10-inch raised-roof cab with six seats;
- CUMMINS ISL 9 450-hp diesel engine with an ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
- UPF 1,000-gallon water and 30-gallon foam tanks;
- slide-in ladder and pike pole storage;
- WATEROUS CMU C20 two-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with an FRC Foam Pro 2001 system, six-inch rear intake, 2½-inch preconnected front bumper discharge with a TFT Bltizfire hand-held monitor and a 2½-inch discharge, three speedlays (two 1¾-inch and one 2½-inch), one rear 2½-inch discharge, and one 2½-inch hosebed discharge;
- rear access ladder;
- AMDOR roll-up compartment doors and nine wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
- GENESIS rescue tools;
- HEARTSINE SAMARITAN AED; and
- lighting with a WILL BURT NIGHT SCAN and RIGID scene lights.

When the regional rescue squad was disbanded, the Saddle River (NJ) Fire Department purchased its own EVI rescue truck. Chief Jake Kossowsky says the department had to purchase rescue tools and place them on an existing pumper until the new truck was delivered.

The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Company, Newtown, Connecticut, replaced a 20-year-old rescue truck with this new one built by RESCUE 1. Chief Bill Halstead says that the department went from a walk-in body to a nonwalk-in one, which afforded them more storage for both present and future inventory. The truck responds primarily to medical calls and motor vehicle accident extrications and gives fireground support.
