HALE PRODUCTS INC. has announced the appointment of GARRY BARBER to the position of group vice president of marketing. Barber, formerly president of American Godiva, will assume responsibility for the development and implementation of global marketing strategies at Hale. In addition, DALE CLEMENTS, president of Hale Fire Pump Company, will assume responsibility for strategic operational decisions for U.S. operations, and MIKE MACOMSON. president of Hurst Emergency Products, will take on responsibilities for the operations of Hale Products’ southern-based facilities.

DAYLE WETHERELL has been appointed senior vice president for NISSAN DlESEL AMERICA, the national distributor of UD Trucks; he will be responsible for national sales, regional and district field operations, and the continuing development of the UD Trucks dealer network. Wetherell began his career with Nissan Diesel America in 1985 as marketing manager. He was named director of marketing in 1987 and in 1988 was elected vice president of marketing. Prior to joining Nissan, Wetherell worked for Rockwell International.

J* GORDON ROUTLEY has been promoted to Director of Fire Department and EMS Management Studies at TRlDATA. making him responsible for comprehensive management and planning studies. Routley previously served as fire chief of Shreveport, Louisiana, and as assistant to Fire Chief Alan Brunacini of the Phoenix (AZ) Fire Department. He also has been a fire serv ice management specialist and principle fire investigator under TriData’s contract with the U.S. Fire Administration. He has degrees from McGill and Arizona State Universities and has studied fire protection engineering at the University of Maryland.

WILLIAM BRUNS, vice president of sales and marketing for Simon Ladder Towers of Ephrata. Pennsylvania, has been elected President of the FIRE APPARATUS MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION for 1993. JACK O’GRADY from Hale Pump Co. will serve as vice-president, ROGER RUTH of Chubb National Foam will serve as secretary, and RON EWERS of Class 1 will serve as treasurer. Bruns is a member of the board of directors of Emergency Vehicle Technicians and recently served on the Congressional Fire Service Institute’s Advisor}’ Board and the Fire Equipment and Manufacturers’ Service Association’s Board of Directors.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Building and Fire Research Laboratory and the National Institute of Standards and Technolog}’ are soliciting abstracts for presentations and poster sessions at the Annual Conference on Fire Research, to be held in Rockville, Maryland, October 18-22. Abstracts in the following areas are being solicited:

  • fire modeling
  • advanced measurement methods and data
  • smoke production and movement
  • fire detection and suppression
  • large fires
  • real-scale fire tests
  • fire risk and hazard analysis

Abstracts should be typed singlespaced on two sheets of 8 ½by 11inch, nonnumbered paper. Title, author(s), and affiliation(s) should be centered at the top of the first page. A cover letter should identify the lead author, with an address and both phone and fax numbers. Line ink drawings or photographs must be captioned and affixed to the page. Submissions must be received by May 31 by Ms. Wanda Duffin; Building 224, Room B-250: National Institute of Standards and Technology; Gaithersburg, MD 20899.

Two Workers Killed, Another Injured in Explosion at Atlanta Delta Air Lines Facility

Two workers were killed and another seriously injured in an explosion Tuesday at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility near the Atlanta airport.
