PORTABLE RADIOS

Motorola’s Land Mobile Products Sector has introduced a new line of private-system FM two-way portable radios. The MTS 2000 and SABER SI ™ portable radios allow for expansion and upgrades of both conventional and SMARTNET™ trunking systems. The MTS 2000 is available in VHF, UHF, 800 and 900 MHz bands. It can accommodate up to 160 modes and access up to 15 different trunked systems. It is smaller and lighter than similar Motorola models. The SABFR SI is available in the 800 MHz band, can accommodate up to 255 modes, and can access up to 30 different trunked systems. It has been down-sized by 22 percent and weighs 17 percent less than its predecessors. Both radios feature Motorola’s FLASHport capability, which allows for upgrades by simply loading new software into existing models.

HAND-HELD LIGHTING

The Pelican Dual Six hand-held light contains two independent, six-volt circuit systems in one body. Combined, they provide 22 to 24 hours total burn time. Each circuit contains its own Xenon lamp filament, switch, and four D-cell batteries and produces 60,000 peak candlepower.

Cairns & Brother, Inc., has added to its protective clothing an outer shell of Reliant™ fabric, a 40/60-percent blend of Lenzing P84™ and Kevlar™, in order to provide high abrasion/tear resistance and extreme resistance to natural elements such as ultraviolet light. Benefits include superior resistance to chemicals, acids, alkalis, and solvents, as well as resistance to high temperatures and direct flame: the fabric won’t melt or burn in air. PROGRAMMABLE VOLTAGE DETECTOR

The new Model 091-45 programmable voltage detector from Kussmaul Electronics Company, Inc., monitors battery voltage in a vehicle and detects both overvoltage and undervoltage conditions. It is programmed at installation and features accurate setpoints and separate relay contact closures for the highor low-voltage condition.

Sani Tote is a new product from Georgia Steel and Chemical Company designed to protect SCBA from cross-contamination while in storage. It comes with an EPAregistered antibacterial assurance that provides protection against bacteria formation. INFLATABLE SHELTER/JUMP RESCUE SYSTEM

Two new products from Fedesco Inc. are designed to meet the needs of emergency services providers. An inflatable, multipurpose shelter, the Air Tent, is constructed of a low-pressure air frame covered with a highquality nylon material. It inflates for service in less than 60 seconds and provides 150 square feet of usable floor space and up to eight feet of inside height. It inflates with a 66-cubic-foot, 4,500-psi SCBA cylinder. The LIFE CUBE jump rescue device, also constructed of a low-pressure air frame, is covered with reinforced vinyl materials. It is rated for 250 pounds at 50 feet. The unit inflates and is ready for use in 45 seconds when inflated with a 66-cubic-foot, 4,500-psi SCBA cylinder. Both devices weigh about 100 pounds and can be placed into service by two trained personnel.

TWO-WAY RADIO INTERCOM SYSTEM

Earmark introduces CONK.IT™, a two-way radio intercom system specifically engineered to solve the worst case confined space communication problems. CONK1T includes a small, portable repeating base station (the CONBASE™); a remote, wired intercom station; and 100 feet of durable audio cable. CONKJT operates in combination with Earmark’s headset and belt-pack radios to form a complete communications system. Entrants take the CONBASE into the confined space with them, whereupon they do not have to worry about radio power. All radio transmission and reception take place at a relatively short range inside the confined space.

AUTOMATIC BATTERY RECHARGER

The Auto Charge 1200 automatic batter)’ charger from Kussmaul Electronics Co. Inc. recharges batteries automatically and stops charging when the charge cycle is completed. Features include a 40-ampere output for rapid recharging of large batteries and a unique bar-graph display that indicates the state of the battery’s charge. Remote sensing of the battery voltage compensates for the voltage drop between the charger and the battery. A novel electronic circuit (patent pending) detects true battery voltage without the additional sense wires normally required.

Maxon America, Inc., has been awarded Intrinsically Safe certification on its Model SP-5050 HD hand portable radio, a five-watt, six-channel, YHF low-band radio operating in the 25to 50MHz range. HAND-HELD INFRARED THERMOMETER

The system utilizes the Corning Celcor ceramic filter to remove more than 92 percent of the particulate matter in diesel exhaust.
