Restored 911 Rescue Truck Arrives in FL

Sanford, FL – In July of 2011, a group of firefighters acquired Rescue 4 from the City of New York, when it was going to be scrapped, for the purpose of creating the REMEMBRANCE RESCUE PROJECT. The project involving former FDNY Rescue 4 is designed to be an educational, non-for-profit effort focused at society, especially youngsters who were too young to actually understand the events of that day.

The Remembrance Rescue Project allows the Rescue to serve as a mobile memorial to Educate, Honor and Remember the events of 9/11 and all fallen firefighters throughout the country. Rescue 4 is currently the only fire apparatus from 9/11 operating outside New York City.  The Project is not an FDNY operation, but a national campaign for 9/11 education and remembrance for all fallen firefighters.

The project raises money to preserve the Rescue and fund activities for children of firefighters lost in the line of duty throughout the United States.

In December of 2011, the Project acquired the last of the Rescue trucks from 9/11, Rescue 5. Rescue 5 was brought to the Project’s Chicago facility and it is undergoing a restoration and is set to debut during FDIC 2012 in Indianapolis.

Rescue 4 recently stayed with Orlando(FL) and Winter Park(FL) Fire Departments, where it also appeared at the Champs Sports Bowl, Capital One Bowl and Citrus Bowl Parade. Early this week, Rescue 4 arrived in Seminole County(FL), where members of the fire department were extremely excited to have the opportunity to share their quarters with such an important piece of American history.

Seminole County Fire Rescue is currently hosting Rescue 4 in one of its firehouses through early February. Seminole County Fire is working with the Project to have the Rescue visit students at the University of Central Florida, Seminole State College and local elementary schools.

The Rescue’s next stop will be with the Deltona(FL) Fire Department before heading to the Jacksonville Car & truck Show on 2/17-2/19. Rescue 4 will spend the rest of February with the Daytona Beach (FL) Fire Department, with an appearance at the Daytona 500.
