FDIC 2014 Recap: Meritor WABCO Introduces its Vehicle Control Systems

At FDIC 2014, Fire Engineering Associate Editor Derek Rosenfeld visited the Lucas Oil Stadium floor to meet up with Meritor WABCO’s Senior Director of Vehicle Control Systems Carsten Duevell and Senior Manager Michael G. Lambie for an introduction to the company’s line of electronic stability control systems aimed at all fire apparatus.

Every day, emergency responders are in aggressive, urgent driving situations, and it’s critical to provide for their safety. Meritor WABCO’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ensures safe and fast arrival to emergency situations. The product satisfies not only NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, but also accounts for dynamic driving situations that the tilt table test and calculated stability control do not.

ESC is a proven product that is heavily integrated in the passenger car and tractor-trailer markets. A recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study estimates that ESC saved more than 2,200 lives over a three-year period in the passenger car market.

Here, Carsten gives a quick overview on the purpose of the control systems:
