New Jersey fire departments to receive free thermal imaging camera

New Jersey fire departments to receive free thermal imaging camera

Fire departments in the state of New Jersey will receive a thermal imaging camera without cost, in accordance with legislation recently signed into law by Governor Christie Whitman. The Fiscal Year 2000 budget contains an appropriation of $7.5 million for the purchase of the equipment. The cameras will be made available through the Department of Community Affairs (DCA), which will select the camera. Departments that have already purchased a thermal imaging camera will be entitled to a reimbursement up to the purchase price of the camera selected by the DCA.

The bill (A-3073) was sponsored by Assembly members Christopher Bateman (R-Morris/Somerset) and Peter J. Biondi (R-Morris/Somerset) and Senators John J. Matheussen (R-Camden/Gloucester) and Norman M. Robertson (R-Essex/Passaic).
