Vacant Rochester (NY) Commercial Structure Linked to Terrorism Case Burns

By John Spaulding

According to Rochester (NY) Fire Department Deputy Chief George Peterson Jr., the fire department was dispatched to 1210 N. Clinton Avenue for a building fire, just two doors down from Engine 2 at about 10:20 p.m. on Sunday.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke that “totally obscured Clinton Avenue” according to Peterson.

The restaurant that was boarded up also had an apartment in the rear, but was vacant. Peterson added that “a couple extra companies were called in because of the large amount of fire and high humidity. The fire took about 40 minutes to bring under control.

Rural Metro Ambulance had set up a rehab area and was hydrating firefighters.

It is unclear what started the fire, but the fire investigation unit was on scene and speaking with the owners of the building.

No one was displaced by the fire and no injuries were sustained by firefighters. Clinton Avenue was closed for a few hours.

The building was formerly MoJoe’s and was recently in the news, with one owner alleged to have been involved in terrorism.  Read more at http://on.rocne.ws/1sjptUM
