Electric Generator

The Kearney Division of Ag-Tronic, Inc., is now marketing a new line of portable rotary field electric generators.

The 52 series models have capacities of 1250 to 6000 watts. Current is not delivered through brushes, thus eliminating the brush maintenance chore.

All models have a 1-inch steel protective cradle and are mounted on rubber feet to reduce vibration. A battery charger and idle control attachments are optional. Electric start can be installed on the 3000 watt and larger units.

Industrial Hose

Boston Industrial Products Division, American Biltrite Inc., announces a 300-psi test, single jacket, industrial fire hose.

The Boston P-300 has an all-polyester jacket and an extruded rubber tube. The hose folds compactly. The 1½ and 2½ inch P-300 hose is available with U/L or FM labels on request. Other options include yellow, red or black Hypalon treatment for extra abrasion resistance, and brass or aluminum couplings.

Detroit Diesel Allison announces that it has incorporated 27 major improvements designed to prolong the life of its series 71 and 92 diesel engines. The availability of new materials has made several design changes possible with the added advantage of improved engine sealing.

Breathing Air Boosters

Two SafetyAmp compressors to boost breathing air storage pressures up to 5000 psi for refilling breathing apparatus cylinders have been introduced by Haskel Engineering & Supply Co.

Model 29140 is designed – for use with breathing air compressor and storage systems in the 2000 to 2800-psi range. This SafetyAmp is a double-acting single stage, contaminate-free booster pump for directly filling cylinders up to 5000 psi. Controls include an automatic stop at any pressure up to 5000 psi and an indenpendent safety relief valve. It weighs 55 pounds and is 17 X 15 X 20 inches.

Model 29653 is for industrial or small fire departments that buys air in 2000 to 2600 psi cylinders. Two compression stages permit pump-down of a supply cylinder to as low as 150 psi while the air is boosted to 5000 psi output. It weighs 75 pounds and is 26 X 15 X 15 inches in size.

Automatic Nozzle

A lightweight, automatic nozzle made of Pyrolite, the Akromatic, has been developed by the Akron Brass Company.

The Akromatic has a 60 to 400 gpm range and features a double row of molded rubber teeth for a fuller fog cone. A rubber handle with dual handle stops is included.

Booster Pump

Robertshaw Controls Company has announced its 5-cfm high pressure breathing air booster pump. The unit can deliver 6000 psi from inlet pressures as low as 400 psi.

The Robertshaw booster station has a two-stage compressor and offers durability and performance with minimal maintenance requirements. The unit weighs less than 100 pounds;

Voltage Alternator

A compact 4000-watt, constant-voltage alternator has been introduced by RMK Industries.

Model FE4000-CV is designed to produce 4000-kw, 115-v, and 60-Hz. The RMK unit has an automatic transmission and electromagnetic clutch that automatically compensates for variable engine speeds while providing constant output voltage. The unit can run heavy duty power tools and lights.

Flashlight

The Police Equipment Division of L.A. Screw Products, Inc., has developed a heavy-duty flashlight.

The Smoke-Cutter is designed to be explosion-proof and water-proof to a depth of 100 feet of water. It is machined from tempered aluminum and has a reflective red anodized finish. The optical system is reported to control glare and eliminate penetration of smoke, steam and fog.

Smoke-Cutter is available in two and five-cell models with an optional lanyard tailcap. A spare bulb is stored in the tailcap. The manufacturer offers a lifetime warranty.

Computer-Based Multiplex System

A computer-based multiplex system which monitors fire security, and building operating equipment, is available from Receptors, Inc.

System 620 collects data from a variety of sensors located over a dispersed area. The system receives and sends information via remote terminals, issues necessary commands, and displays such information as alarms, summaries, instructions and command requests on video monitors.

Talking Clock

Omnicron Electronics has developed the TCE-124 Talking Clock that automatically logs the time on recording systems. The vocabulary is produced electronically by a speech synthesis micro-controller. When used with either voice or device-activated recorders, the TCE-124 inserts a verbal announcement immediately after each message.

Other features include 12 or 24-hour format, visual LED display, monitor speaker, MSI/LSI circuitry, 1-watt, 8-ohm audio output, universal input/output control circuits, and compact size—7¾ X 3½ X 7½ inches.

Revolving Light

The R.E. Dietz Company has introduced an economy model revolving light.

The 12-v light flashes 90 times per minute and has a red, blue or yellow break-resistant plastic lens, aluminum base plate and quick release stainless steel bezel for fast bulb replacement. The reflector revolves 360 degrees.

Automatic Fire Extinguisher

A new concept in portable fire extinguishers, called Porta-Matic, has been introduced by Porta-Matic Fire Extinguisher Corporation. This extinguisher has a temperature-actuated mechanism that releases 10 pounds of ABC dry chemical automatically at 140-155°F. It also can be operated manually. The extinguisher measures 18⅜ inches high and 6 inches in diameter. Fully charged, it weighs 18¾ pounds. It is UL listed at 2-A:20-B:C.

Heat-Resistant Glove

Fyrepel Products, protective clothing manufacturer, has available a heat-resistant pigskin glove with Kynol lining.

The manufacturer states that adding the fire-retardant capabilities of Kynol fabric to pigskin, which already is heat-resistant by nature, a long wearing work glove was developed that will stay soft and flexible.

Skull Saver

Fire Research Corporation announces its Super Skull Saver that covers both spurs of a carried on fire apparatus ladder. The bright yellow color gives visible warning of the ladder’s presence, and the foam bag cushions any bump against the end of the ladder. A slight tug releases the two straps that hold the safety device to the ladder and a third strap—attached to the apparatus— keeps the Super Skull Saver from falling to the ground.

50-Channel Scanner

The Electra Company has introduced the Bearcat 250, a 50-channel scanner that requires no crystals.

The solid-state Bearcat 250 features nonvolatile memory, five chips and permits push-button programming of frequencies in five bands—low and high VHF bands, UHF band, T band and 2-meter amateur frequencies between 146 and 148 MHz.

Other features of the Bearcat 250 include a priority channel selection, an auxiliary equipment button, a selective scan delay button, a front mount speaker, and an extel antenna jack. A mounting bracket is provided.
