What Would You Do? Water Supply Loss

By Forest Reeder

This series of scenario-based training discussions require each member of the crew to describe what their individual and crew actions are when faced with a fireground safety hazard or fireground emergency. Each member of your department who responds to a fire scene should have a “safety pre-plan” to deal with hazardous situations that occur during fire scene operations.

This emergency action drill looks at a situation in which there is a sudden and unexpected loss of water supply to the attack lines that have been put into operation on the interior of a residential fire. Two companies were assigned to interior attack and search operations and were operating at different locations inside the structure. The water supply problem cannot be identified immediately and no other back-up lines or alternate water supplies were established. Describe your actions according to the fireground assignments that apply to this incident and review your local procedures for this emergency situation.
