CUMMINS ENGINE COMPANY, INC., has received the second annual Technical Achievement Award, presented by the Truck Writers of North America (TWNA) for introduction of a heavy-duty electronic engine technology known as FSP. These “smart” engines are capable of sensing situations which call for added power and torque.

“Solutions Tour ’93,” a mobile information center designed to showcase the company’s complete line of products and services, has been launched by NATIONAL FOAM Introduced on April 3rd at the Fire Department Instructors Conference in Cincinnati, the tour will continue through December. The tour includes multimedia presentations designed to instruct in areas such as vapor suppression; regulatory and environmental issues; vessel and dock, storage tank, aircraft hangar, and loading rack protection; and foam equipment and applications. The tour schedule includes fire schools and shows.

With nearly UK) years’ experience in the industrial safety boot business, KAUFMAN FOOTWEAR of Kitchener, Ontario, and Batavia, New York, now manufactures and distributes fire boots under the BLACK DIAMOND brand name. Initially, the Black Diamond brand will be marketing seven allrubber boots designed to meet NFPA safetyguidelines. The boots are also ANSI and OSHA certified. Color standards will follow regional traditions.

NOISE CANCELLATION TECHNOLOGIES, INC., has announced that the Societe de Transport de La Communaute L’rbaine de Montreal, a leading Canadian public transit company, is evaluating active noise reduction technology by outfitting tw o of its buses with electronic mufflers developed by WALKER NOISE CANCELLATION TECHNOLOGIES, a joint venture of Walker Manufacturering and Noise Cancellation Technologies. Beginning this month, the mufflers will be installed on Montreal buses for a series of preliminary and in-service durability tests. The mufflers, which use NCTs patented active noise reduction technology, are expected to make the buses run more quietly and efficiently by using sophisticated digital signal processing technology and software tor high-speed analysis of selected, undesirable noises in a chosen environment. Based on that analysis, the system produces an equal but opposite sound wave, called “anti” noise,” which reduces unwanted noise and vibration.

A strategic alliance between two companies in the Los Angeles (CA) area, MAGNAVOX ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS COMPANY of Tor ranee and CUE NETWORK CORPORATION of Irvine, has yielded the first nationwide high-accuracy satellite positioning and location network. The PINPOINT NETWORK will permit users to determine their geographic positions within a few feet, using signals from U.S. navigational satellites and transmissions from local FM radio stations. Pinpoint also can be used for a range of public and private services, including fleet tracking and . management by 911 dispatchers.
