Buffalo (NY) frefighters were originally called for ringing alarms to number 117 Lafayette Ave. Upon arrival of the battalion chief, a working fire was discovered on the third floor of an occupied/vacant apartment building, with the third floor being vacant.

B-44 (Battalion Chief) quickly declared a second alarm right away. As the fire progressed, companies went defensive after fire found its way to the cockloft and spread throughout the roof of the building. Because of the fire spreading through the cockloft, a third alarm was transmitted and multiple tower ladders were put to work, as well as many blitz lines.
