Las Vegas Firefighters Donate Thousands to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

The Las Vegas Firefighters (Local 1285) donated $5,246 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Proceeds were donated from their “Fighting Breast Cancer” t-shirt fundraiser, which ran throughout October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“We are proud to present this check to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in support of their worthy cause,” said Scott Johnson, president of the Las Vegas Firefighters. “We are grateful to our community and our members who purchased a shirt. Your donation not only helps get the word out by being able to sport your shirt… It also helps fight this disease and help those in our community fighting their own battle against it.”

The Southern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen(r) is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.
