BOW Building Protected by Spectrex SharpEye 20/20MI Detectors

Since 2007, Spectrex has been involved in fire protecting the new EnCana headquarters: The BOW building in downtown Calgary, Canada. The building features four large atria and Spectrex was consulted for advice on how to protect these large areas against fire.

The decision was taken to split each atrium into zones, each zone covering 66% of the area, providing an overlap in the protection. The 20/20MI Mini Optical IR3 Flame Detector was used  as it is least subject to false alarms caused by sunlight and lightning. Since one side of these atria is all windows, this is a very important feature. Additionally, the 20/20MI is small in size which allows the 85 detectors installed in the four atria to go almost unnoticed.

The detection segment of the system has a main control panel on the 24th floor and a remote annunciator panel in the CACF control room on the main floor. Operation of any one Spectrex flame detector will cause an alarm condition on the main panel as well as the remote annunciator.

Spectrex, Inc. is the world leader in the Flame and Open Path Gas Detectors field. We are fully committed to enhance the safety of your employees, capital investments and to the environment. Being the first to launch major innovations that have become trade standards such as the first UV/IR and IR3 Flame Detector designs, Spectrex continues to offer over 40 different Flame Detector designs to meet application challenges from Offshore Oil & Gas to Mall Floors, from Alaska to Malaysia. Spectrex was first to incorporate the Xenon Flash in OPGD detectors to solve false alarm issues common in the industry.
