(Thaioil) is taking delivery of four NATIONAL FOAM, INC. fire apparatus to better protect its refinery complex in Sriracha, Chonburi, Thailand. The FOAM PUMPER (one of two ordered) and TANKER shown are the first units to be delivered. Additionally, the company will take delivery of a 102-foot aerial ladder and a second foam pumper in the future. Abhnant Supatrabutra, HSEQL manager, explains that the approximately 700-acre facility is a highly sophisticated oil-refining complex with a capacity of 220,000 barrels of crude oil and feed stock intake per day and a staff of approximately 750, making it the largest of the six oil-refining companies in Thailand (28 percent of total inland capacity).

has three EMERGENCY ONE apparatus, one engine and two quints. Firefighter Jason Walter explains that in the 1980s the department replaced engines and trucks that shared quarters with a “quint-midi” concept. Quints replaced ladder trucks; the smaller, maneuverable pumpers replaced full-size engines. The two apparatus respond as one company. Single-engine houses remained unchanged. There are presently eight engine companies and nine quint-midi companies in this 34.5-square-mile city of 240,000.

The Rapid Valley Fire Protection District
in Rapid City, South Dakota, protects a large rural area. Chief Lyle Heinrich says that roughly 10 percent of the 117-square-mile area has 90 percent of the population of 13,000. This PIERCE pumper/tanker carries enough water to begin holding a fire until more water can be supplied through mutual aid. The time of day determines the available volunteer response, so the cab holds fewer seats and the preset computerized pump control allows the driver to start another operation until help arrives.
